So finally I put my “lazy-ness” behind me and decided to make waffles! But I then realized that I was mistaken that I had a waffle hot plate !
How demotivating is that ?
But somehow I did some search and found that it is possible to make waffles without a waffle iron,
And yes they did turn out to be crispy from outside and soft from the inside. As this was my first time, I stuck to the basic recipe of a waffle.
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- (Many times I have seen recipes use 1/2 cup whole wheat flour but as I did not have any of that I just used the all-purpose flour)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons raw sugar (or substitute granulated white sugar)
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups milk (Usually buttermilk is used for a richer taste but I just used full cream milk)
- Unsalted butter
- Maple Syrup or Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup or Any Syrup
- Mix all the dry ingredients together properly. Make sure they are mixed evenly, as usually we just ignore mixing the dry ingredients.
- In a separate bowl beat the eggs and the milk. Mix them with the dry ingredients. Melt some unsalted butter (I used a table spoon of butter). From experience I have noticed that if you add vanilla extract at the end, then its smell stays longer.
- Do not over mix. If you see some lumps in the batter, it is fine, it would not matter.
- If you over mix the batter might become thick.
- As I was using the sandwich maker grill, it became heated in one minute. What ever Griller or source you are using it needs to be preheated. I sprayed some olive oil, and poured the batter into the grill plate, and closed it.
- By using my smelling instinct I figured out they were cooked. Took almost 3 minutes!
- And then I cut them into two, spread some Maple syrup and topped with Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup and munched it right away 🙂
